For previous posts in our series through the Song of Songs, see this link.
The man and the woman in the Song are devoted to one another. Their words and actions make this clear. In 2:16–17, the woman declares their mutual devotion. But in 3:1–4 she cannot find the one she loves, so she searches until she finds him. In 3:5 we read an exhortation to the “daughters of Jerusalem” about self-control.
We approached the unit 2:8–3:5 in two parts. We examined 2:8–15 in our last post, and below we will reflect on 2:16–3:5. We will ask about the meaning of the imagery, how it might connect to Israel’s history, and its good news for the Christian life.
