Last year I used the “Doxology” melody to write an Easter hymn. I called it “Resurrection Doxology,” and it’s five verses:
VERSE 1
Praise God who spoke all things to be
and by his Word made all we see,
who filled us with his breath to live,
and from our hearts his praise to give.
VERSE 2
Praise him who saw our low estate,
for we like sheep had gone astray.
Into the world which God had made,
his only Son in love he gave.
VERSE 3
Praise him who knew no sin and yet
took on the curse to pay our debt.
He bore our ev’ry wickedness
to clothe us in his righteousness.
VERSE 4
Praise him who died upon the tree,
with arms outstretched for you and me.
The Son of God was laid alone
inside a borrowed tomb of stone.
VERSE 5
Praise him who rose with life and light,
who conquered death with holy might.
His victory we ever sing:
all glory to the risen King!
Amen!
