Amid the land allotment details in Joshua 13–19, the biblical author interweaves sections that focus on certain characters who speak about something important to them. Such an episode occurs in Joshua 14:6–15, when Caleb asks about his inheritance in Canaan. When he speaks about it, he makes reference to an incident that occurred decades earlier, an incident where fellow Israelites acted rebelliously while he acted obediently. His summary of what happened included the words: yet I wholly followed the LORD my God” (Josh. 14:8).
