The man on the middle cross wasn’t behaving like a normal crucified victim. For one thing, he was quoting from Psalms. And furthermore, for those with eyes to see and ears to hear, he was fulfilling those Psalms.

The four Gospels report seven sayings of Christ from the cross. One of these sayings was “I thirst.” And that saying fulfilled something said many centuries earlier by King David.
