Outside Eden, Adam and Eve died, and death has been the inevitable outcome of earthly life ever since. We know our bodies are mortal. We feel it. We are reminded of our mortality every time we get sick, develop a new challenge with aging, stub our toe, or attend a funeral. We are most certainly not invincible.
The hope that Christ will defeat death is a promise all over the New Testament. Mortality is our temporary state. We were made for immortality.
