Yesterday I officiated a funeral, and I’m reminded afresh of the great resurrection hope we have in Christ our Savior. Perhaps this poem will encourage you as we await the glory of life on that distant shore.
“A Distant Shore”
Written for my friend Jake (2001-2023)
July 28, 2023
All the suff’rings of this life
are held by mighty hands,
which turn our griefs to lasting good,
like glass from desert sands.
Pilgrims on a narrow way,
we seek a distant Shore,
where all the promises of God
are kept forevermore.
Pain and darkness, sin and death,
shall not reign over there,
for God himself shall be our Light
and wipe our ev’ry tear.
O the hope of ours in Christ:
that He who rose again
shall raise to glory all His own
and bring death to an end.
Thank you!
